The Lighting of the Christmas Tree 2024

image00011One of the fun community events in our Earl’s Court Square calendar for all ages to participate.

We were somewhat nervous this year, as the Christmas tree purchased was uncustomary small for the ‘nomenclature’ of the event.  It was pretty though.  This year we arranged for a keyboard player to tinkle out the Christmas carols and songs. To make the most of the occasion, Sue Lupton was asked to put a singing group together and the song sheet.

image00012A core of volunteers was happily coerced into singing, even if it was to add volume, but beautiful voices were needed and our neighbour Agnes Casin put the word out to her singing group the Barcarolle Choir, who regularly practice and perform at St. Cuthberts Church.

image00010A handful of fun people came with partners and the stage was set for a jolly 20-minute singsong where everyone there was seen to join in. The children continued in full voice around Ben the keyboard player on and off throughout the event.
