15 JULY - 26 SEPTEMBER
FROM EARL'S COURT DEVELOPMENT COMPANY
I am writing regarding a number of plans we are working on bringing to the Earl's Court site this summer. The plans have been shaped by our conversations with the local community, who have told us that the site has been closed off for far too long. We are responding by bringing forward proposals (subject to planning and licensing approval) to re-open parts of the site back up to the public in time for the relaxation of restrictions recently set out by the Government.
Firstly, we are delighted to share that we are working with world leading live entertainment company Underbelly who are coming to Earls Court from 15th July to 26th September for a summer of fun, temporarily transforming the site of the former Exhibition Centre 2 into the “London Wonderground”, with a programme of theatre, comedy, music, vintage rides, and a City Beach. Underbelly have been present at the world-renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe since 2000, and for the last 11 years have run Underbelly Festival on the Southbank, as well as producing Christmas in Leicester Square, West End Live and Pride in London.
We are keen to engage local musicians, performers, and cultural venues to maximise programming and collaboration opportunities during the Wonderground event and have already established connections with a number of groups and individuals who are interested. We are also meeting with local business groups, traders and Business Improvement Districts to ensure the increased footfall can have a positive economic impact locally. More information about this event is available at www.theearlscourtdevelopmentcompany.com
Working with Underbelly, we are also bringing forward a temporary public space on Warwick Road opposite Earls Court Tube Station, transforming it with an exciting art installation, and an art wall in partnership with the Kensington + Chelsea Festival. This temporary space can be used for meanwhile uses after the summer, for which we will be listening to local people about how they’d like to see this place used.
We will be hosting a virtual webinar on Monday 26th April at 6.30pm to give the local community an opportunity to learn more about the summer of fun at Earls Court. To attend this webinar please visit: earlscourtwebinar.com
We will be taking questions on the night which can be submitted live on the web chat on Monday evening or by emailing us in advance on firstname.lastname@example.org
Thinking longer term The Earls Court Development Company is taking a new approach to this unique location. We want the future of Earls Court to be shaped by local people and we look forward to opening up the site this summer, and meeting more people to hear your views, suggestions and priorities for what comes next.
Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or suggestions.
