ECSRA History Walk – 6th March 2022
This event evolved as Christine Powell and Sue Lupton had done a lot of research on the Square for our Plaques Event last year but sadly, there were few takers for tours as everyone was enjoying the sunshine and the complimentary champagne and canapés. Rather than waste the research, Christine and Sue offered to run two consecutive History Walks in the Spring.
On a bright and sunny March morning (with a very cold wind) two groups of residents joined Christine and Sue for an historical and architectural walk around Earl's Court Square at 10:00 and 12:00. It was a joy to see neighbours (who I'm delighted to say are all ECSRA Members) chatting together over coffee and biscuits and it was very entertaining to hear their own stories about their buildings and the people who had lived in them.
Many thanks to Christine and Sue for giving up a Sunday morning and to the Members below who emailed their comments on the walks.
Emails received from ECSRA Members:
"Again many thanks for you and the others for organising the tour this morning. We have really enjoyed the stories - great initiative!"
"Very many thanks for arranging the walk, that we found very interesting, and for the warm drinks afterwards. It was a lovely opportunity to learn about the history of the square and to meet other residents. Please thank Sue and Christine on our behalf too. We are so lucky to live on the Square."
"Thank you to you, Christine and Sue for a great afternoon on Sunday. The coffee was wonderful as it was so cold and it warmed us both up before our walk. Christine and Sue did a great job in explaining the history and architecture of the Square which was really interesting."
"Thank you both so much for your tours of the Square. We very much enjoyed them. You have obviously done a great deal of research, and it was most interesting to learn some new things about the Square. Of course it was lovely just to be with you and some of our neighbours, even if it was a bit chilly. Thanks also for the warming coffee".
Please do have a look at Christine's and Sue's notes attached below as a lot of research went into this ECSRA event.
