A CELEBRATION TO HONOUR FOUR EXTRAORDINARY INDIVIDUALS
On a sunny September afternoon in Earl’s Court Square, late summer flowers in bloom, gazebos festooned with Union flags, families, friends and neighbours of four important local residents gathered to celebrate their contribution to the community. The event marked the placing of four commemorative plaques on the properties where they once lived. Chrissie Courtney Chairman of the Earl’s Court Residents’ Association welcomed the guests. The unveiling of the plaques was preceded by presentations by the families, who fondly, and with some humour, reminisced about their father, grandfather, godparent or colleague.
Everyone worked together to ensure the event was a worthy appreciation of local people who made our world a better place. We hope we succeeded in demonstrating to residents now and in the future, that we are a community made better by the legacy of people who have volunteered their time, skills and efforts.
The initiative was supported by several sources including a grant from City Living Local Life whose funding to make the plaques was supported by our three Ward Councillors; John D. Wood & Co, The Sloane Club and private donations.
